Rubber Diaphragms for Pressure Control

Category: Custom Rubber Parts

Rubber diaphragms separate two media while transferring pressure or mechanical movement across a flexible membrane. Hongjie manufactures custom diaphragms for valves, pumps, regulators and control assemblies, with the profile, material and reinforcement selected around pressure differential, stroke, media contact and expected flex life. For automotive diaphragms requiring PPAP support, see our Custom Rubber Diaphragms.

Key Features

Rubber Diaphragms for Pressure and Media Control

Rubber diaphragms separate media while transferring pressure or mechanical movement through a flexible membrane. Profile, bead geometry, stroke, compound and reinforcement should be selected around the actual operating conditions.

  • Media Isolation

Separates fluids, gases or pressure zones while allowing controlled movement between two sides of an assembly.

  • Pressure Response

Transfers pressure changes into mechanical movement in valves, regulators, pumps and other control assemblies.

  • Controlled Stroke

The diaphragm profile is matched to the required travel so the membrane can move without unnecessary stretching.

  • Clamped Edge Sealing

Beads, flanges and clamping areas can be molded to fit the housing and maintain separation around the diaphragm perimeter.

  • Profile & Bead Design

Flat, convoluted, rolling and other molded profiles can be developed around the available space, clamped diameter and movement required.

  • Repeated Flexing

Flexing areas are reviewed for local strain, membrane thickness and expected cycle requirements before the profile is finalized.

Compound Selection by Media

  • EPDM Rubber

For water, air and outdoor exposure, EPDM is often considered where ozone, weather and aging resistance are important.

Water & Air Ozone Resistant Outdoor Exposure
  • NBR Rubber

For petroleum-based oils and grease contact, NBR is a common starting point when moderate temperature resistance and flexibility are required.

Oil Contact Grease Contact Moderate Temperature
  • Silicone Rubber

Silicone is considered where a wide temperature range and low-temperature flexibility are more important than resistance to oils or fuels.

Wide Temperature Low-Temp Flexibility Clean Applications
  • HNBR Rubber

HNBR can be selected when oil resistance is required together with higher heat and aging resistance than standard NBR.

Oil Contact Higher Heat Aging Resistance
  • Neoprene Rubber

Neoprene can suit general industrial service where weathering, abrasion and contact with mild chemicals must be balanced.

    Mild Chemicals Weathering General Industrial
  • FKM Rubber

FKM is considered for higher temperatures or more aggressive contact with fuels, oils and chemicals when the flex requirement allows it.

Where It's Used

Valve, Pump & Control Applications

These applications use a flexible diaphragm to respond to pressure, move a mechanism or keep two media separated.

  • pressure control valve application

    Control Valves

A diaphragm can move a valve mechanism as pressure changes while keeping the operating media separated.

  • water flow valve diaphragm application

    Water Flow Valves

Used in water-control assemblies where the diaphragm opens, closes or regulates flow in response to pressure.

  • pressure regulator control equipment

    Pressure Regulators

The diaphragm senses pressure changes and transfers movement to the regulating mechanism between pressure zones.

  • diaphragm pump fluid control equipment

    Diaphragm Pumps

Flexible movement creates displacement while separating the pumped medium from the drive side of the assembly.

  • metering and dispensing diaphragm application

    Metering & Dosing Equipment

Controlled diaphragm movement can support repeatable displacement in compact dosing and dispensing systems.

  • pump and sprayer diaphragm system

    Pump & Sprayer Systems

Diaphragms are used in pump and sprayer assemblies that need repeated movement and separation from water or chemical media.

Custom Diaphragm Design Review

Send the drawing or sample together with pressure, media, temperature, stroke and clamping details. We review the profile and material around how the diaphragm will work in the assembly. For automotive diaphragms requiring PPAP support, use our dedicated automotive diaphragm page.

  • Drawing & Operating Conditions

Provide the drawing or sample together with pressure range, media, temperature, installation space and expected movement.

  • Profile & Bead Review

We review the membrane profile, bead, clamped diameter and working stroke against the available space in the assembly.

  • Compound & Reinforcement

Compound selection follows the media and temperature conditions. Reinforcement can be considered where pressure or dimensional stability requires it.

  • Sample & Flex Evaluation

Initial samples can be checked for profile, bead fit and critical dimensions. Flex, pressure or leakage checks can be defined when the application requires them.
