Rubber Blind Grommets

Category: Custom Rubber Parts

Hongjie manufactures closed-center rubber grommets for blanking unused panel holes, service openings and assembly ports. Unlike wire or cable grommets, these parts have no pass-through opening. Send the hole diameter, panel thickness, groove dimensions and required cap profile for fit review and sampling.

Closed Rubber Grommets for Unused Panel Holes

Blind rubber grommets close holes and service openings that do not carry wires or cables. These closed-center parts are also used as closed-hole grommets or rubber panel-hole plugs. The retaining groove is matched to the hole diameter and panel thickness for a secure fit.

  • closed center design icon

    Closed Center

The center is fully molded with no pass-through hole, making the part suitable for blanking unused openings.

  • panel retention icon

    Panel Retention

A molded groove grips the panel edge and helps keep the grommet seated after installation.

  • groove fit icon

    Groove Fit

Groove width and groove diameter are matched to the panel thickness and hole size rather than selected by outside diameter alone.

  • cap profile icon

    Cap Profile

The exposed cap can be flat, domed or raised to suit clearance, appearance and access requirements.

  • removable blanking icon

    Removable Blanking

Flexible rubber allows the opening to stay closed in normal use while remaining removable when later service access is needed.

  • dust and water requirement icon

    Dust or Water Requirement

Tell us whether the part only needs to block dust and debris or must meet a defined water-resistance requirement.

Hole, Panel, Groove & Material Data

For a blind grommet, fit depends on the panel opening, panel thickness and retaining groove. Send these dimensions with the required cap profile so the part can be checked before sampling.

Available Compounds

  • EPDM Rubber

EPDM is a common choice for blind grommets exposed to weather, ozone and moisture, especially on exterior panels and outdoor equipment.

Weather Resistant Moisture Resistant Exterior Panels
  • NBR Rubber

NBR is suited to panel holes near oil, grease or lubricated components where standard weather resistance is not the main requirement.

Oil Resistant Abrasion Resistant Oil Exposure
  • Silicone Rubber

Silicone remains flexible over a wider temperature range and can be selected when a softer installation feel or specific compliance grade is required.

    Flexible Temperature Resistant Compliance Options
  • HNBR Rubber

HNBR offers higher heat and oil resistance than standard NBR for blind grommets used around hotter or more demanding equipment areas.

Heat Resistant Oil Resistant Wear Resistant
  • Neoprene Rubber

Neoprene provides a balanced option for general panel blanking where abrasion, weathering and mild chemical contact may occur.

Abrasion Resistant Weather Resistant General Purpose
  • FKM Rubber

FKM is used when an unused port or panel opening is exposed to higher temperatures, oils, fuels or aggressive chemicals.

Chemical Resistant High Temperature Premium Grade

Blind Grommet Fit Starts with the Panel Opening

A blind grommet should be sized from the actual hole and panel, not from cap diameter alone. Hole diameter, panel thickness, groove fit and cap clearance are reviewed together before sampling.

Where It's Used

Blind Grommet & Hole-Plug Applications

These parts are for openings that stay closed. If a conductor must pass through the panel, use rubber wire grommets for small wires or rubber cable grommets for cable entries instead.

  • vehicle application for unused panel-hole blanking

    Unused Panel Holes

Closes punched or drilled holes that are not used in the current panel or equipment configuration.

  • electrical enclosure application for blind rubber grommets

    Control Cabinet Openings

Blanks unused knockouts and access holes in control cabinets and electrical enclosures.

  • appliance housing application for rubber panel-hole plugs

    Optional Assembly Positions

Covers holes used only on certain product variants so one panel design can support more than one assembly.

  • service-opening blanking application in equipment housing

    Service Access Holes

Keeps a service or inspection opening closed during normal operation while allowing later removal for access.

  • equipment housing application for removable hole blanking

    Shipping and Assembly Blanking

Keeps dust and debris out of an opening during handling, storage or assembly before the final configuration is completed.

  • outdoor equipment application for closed rubber grommets

    Outdoor Equipment Ports

Closes unused ports on outdoor housings where the material may need resistance to weather, ozone and moisture.

Fit Samples & Retention Inspection

Send the panel hole size, panel thickness, groove dimensions and required cap profile. We can review the fit from a drawing or sample and confirm the checks needed before batch production.

custom molded rubber components for fit and inspection review
  • Hole & Panel Review

We start with the actual hole diameter and panel thickness, then check the space available for the flange and exposed cap.

  • Groove & Cap Definition

Groove diameter, groove width, overall diameter and cap height are defined around the panel fit and required clearance.

  • Fit Sample Check

Samples can be installed in the actual panel or a representative test plate to confirm seating and installation feel.

  • Retention & Batch Inspection

Where required, pull-out retention can be checked together with dimensions, appearance and other project-specific inspection points.
