Selection Guide

How to Select a Silicone O-Ring

Silicone O-ring selection should begin with the material grade, hardness, size standard and application conditions. These requirements should be reviewed together so the selected compound and dimensions match the sealing position.

  • Material Grade

Standard silicone and selected Dow Corning silicone material options are available. Confirm the specific compound according to the sealing conditions and documentation required.

  • Size Standard

Choose AS568, metric or JIS dimensions according to the groove design, equipment standard or existing part specification.

  • Size Range

Current capability covers ID 0.60 × CS 0.20 mm up to ID 1000.00 × CS 20.00 mm, subject to the selected material and specification.

  • Hardness Selection

Hardness options are available within the 20–90 Shore A capability, subject to the selected silicone compound and project requirements.

  • Compliance Requirements

FDA, NSF, RoHS and REACH options may be available for selected compounds. Required documentation should be confirmed before material selection.

  • Application Conditions

Confirm the operating medium, temperature conditions, sealing mode and installation requirements before selecting the silicone grade.

Application Review

Silicone O-Ring Application Considerations

Review the sealing position, operating medium and required material documentation together with the silicone grade and dimensions before specification.

  • Medical Equipment Components

For selected medical equipment assemblies, confirm the required silicone grade, hardness, dimensions and applicable material documentation.

  • Home Appliance Components

For appliance sealing positions, select the silicone grade and dimensions according to the operating conditions, groove and assembly requirements.

  • Water-Contact Components

For selected water-contact positions, confirm material compatibility and any required compliance documentation before specifying the silicone compound.

  • Static & Dynamic Sealing Review

For static seals, review groove and compression requirements. For moving positions, also review speed, friction, lubrication and wear conditions before silicone is specified.

Specification Review

Silicone O-Ring Specification Review

Provide the size standard or drawing together with hardness, operating conditions and documentation requirements so the material and dimensions can be reviewed as one sealing specification.

  • For Standard Sizes

Provide the AS568 dash number, metric ID × CS dimensions or JIS designation together with the required material and hardness.

  • For Custom Sizes

Provide a drawing, sample or specified inside diameter and cross-section together with the required dimensional tolerances.

  • For Material Requirements

Specify the required hardness, operating medium, temperature conditions and any material or compliance documentation needed for the project.

  • For Application Conditions

State whether the seal is static or dynamic and provide relevant groove, movement, pressure or installation conditions for review.
